Tudor Black Bay 58
A Timeless Dive Watch
Now, what is there to say about a watch, that every watch collector owns, without repeating what has already been said?
Honestly, nothing.
Yes, it’s inspired by it’s big brother Rolex Submariner. But it has something that I think Rolex has lost over the years. Character.
I don’t believe there are many other dive watches out there that scream character in the way that the Tudor Black Bay 58 does.
Most dive watches I see are uninsteresting to me. They have taken the classic design of the Submariner, slapped their name on the dial, and called it a day.
The Black Bay 58 did exactly that as well, but from a vintage perspective, taking something old and making it new again. Tudor made a statement with the Black Bay 58. They said this is the best design there is, and you’re going to love it.
Does It Desreve All The Praise?
To be honest, I didn’t like this watch at all when I first saw it, I didn’t like the gilt and thought the Blue version was the superior model. But when I held it, I immediately understood the appeal.
It wasn’t gold, it didn’t shine, it was suble and subdued. Its the watch for someone who doesn’t like flashy things. And it deserves it all.
Infinite Strap Possibilities
When I purchased my Black Bay 58 I got a pretty significant discount because it didn’t have the original bracelet.
At first I was a little dissapointed, until I remembered all the people on Instagram who wear there’s on a strap, and only occasionally wear it on the bracelet.
And I’m not upset at all. It’s fun changing straps over. For those hot summer months a Nato is perfect. Going out on a date? Leather strap. So many different possibilities. I’ve owned a few different dive watches in my watch collecting journey and none has felt so at home on different straps than this one.
The 20mm lug width means that I already owned a decent number of straps to pair with the Black Bay 58. I’m not particularly of the term ‘Strap Monster’ but I can’t think of a better way to say it.
